MUMBAI: Raising questions over the security in Bombay high court, a "mentally unsound" man on Tuesday threw a file folder at a senior judge of the court. The folder containing a book and newspapers narrowly missed Justice AP Deshpande, who ducked just in time.
Omkarnath alias Krishnakumar Pandey, a resident of Powai, was not a litigant and said to have come to the court "to spread the message of Lord Krishna".
The incident occurred at around 1.30 pm when Justice Deshpande was hearing a case in room no 6 on the ground floor. Pandey, 51, walked towards the bench but a court guard stopped him. He then threw the folder at the judge before he was overpowered by the police.
"I was trying to catch the judge's attention but he didn't even notice," Pandey told the police later. He said the folder had slipped from his hand and "flew towards the judge on its own".
Pandey said he was a watchman with a private security agency and posted at the office of a transport company in Goregaon. He replied to police questions in English and Hindi and said he came to the court to "impart god's message".
He was arrested for intentionally insulting a judicial officer and assaulting a public servant. "From preliminary investigations it appears that he is mentally unsound, but we are not sure if is isn't play acting just to avoid getting arrested," said a police officer.
